50 million KG of food rescued

Throughout 2025, FoodMesh has continued our work to help organizations minimize the volume of their unsalable food ending up in waste streams, and maximize the impact that food can have on their local communities.

During the year, the organizations we work with hit the incredible milestone of 50 million KG of rescued since FoodMesh opened our doors in 2017.

Impact on employees

  • Codified and expanded our Employment Stock Option Plan to attract future talent
  • Instated quarterly training opportunities - with the themes of Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Problem Solving, Feedback Skills and Waste Reduction 
  • Completed a robust performance review process for the entire team and scored 86.7% on happiness and 97% responses stating they are proud to work at FoodMesh
  • Maintained a flexible hybrid work arrangement for employees to choose the working hours that work best for all, and adjust to their evolving life needs
  • Expanded our employee perks program to include requested items such as birthdays off, annual lunch with the CEO, and 2 spiritual days of observance
  • Provided employees with a training allowance and paid time to support their professional and personal development 
  • Maintained a monthly ‘Coffee Culture Club’ to create space for the team to come together and share ideas on different practices FoodMesh can adopt to help build a positive, inclusive and supportive work culture
  • Hosted our fifth annual all-staff retreat for quality in-person team building
  • Maintained a social committee that included a summer party and a holiday party for the team to come together and enjoy informal social time and team building
  • Provided each employee with an end-of-year bonus and all employees received an adjustment in compensation to reflect evolving roles and inflation

Impact on customers

  • Developed better telemetry metrics and anomaly reporting on their waste behaviour so they can better understand when and where the waste is occurring to inform where to reduce it where possible
  • Arranged volunteer days for customers to see the impact of their donation program first hand
  • Helped to generate positive media coverage about our customers and their outstanding food recovery efforts
  • Celebrated our customers’ key food recovery milestones on FoodMesh’s blog and social media channels
  • Increased overall customer diversion from landfill by 12% (from 2024 baseline)
  • Provided aggregate savings to customers of approximately $403, 851 in annualized savings
  • Provided direct waste program costs saving potentials to customers of approximately $3.4 million

Impact on the environment

  • Helped organizations divert 9,716,720 KG in 2025 and 48,547,568 Kg since FoodMesh began
  • Helped save 27,553,992 KG of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere in 2025 and 138,623,426 KG since FoodMesh began
  • Assessed  the greenhouse gases emitted by our operations to 0.0945 tonnes CO2e for 2025. Since we are a service and technology company, FoodMesh generates no Scope 1 emissions and minimal Scope 2 emissions through the electricity usage at our Vancouver office. When procuring equipment, such as office furniture or laptops, we maintain a ‘buy seconds first’ policy – opting for reused or refurbished items first and only buying items new when absolutely necessary 
  • We encourage remote working to reduce unnecessary emissions
  • Our office is located near public transport hubs so that employees can commute to work by bus or train.  A number of employees bike or walk to the office
  • Our annual Secret Santa was using regifted, thrifted or homemade items only

Impact on community

  • We coordinated donations to 151 food rescue agencies and 382 farmers
  • We celebrate and promote the great work our charity partners are doing through blog posts and social media coverage on an ongoing basis
  • We have shared $641,447 in revenue with hunger-relief organizations in2025, and $2,935,504 since FoodMesh began
  • We have helped organizations rescue the equivalent of 14,587,788 meals in 2025, and 73,427,274 meals in total since FoodMesh began
  • As part of our company policy, FoodMesh supports and encourages team members to give back through up to two paid volunteer days annually. In 2025, this commitment was reflected in a team volunteer initiative with Quest, engaging 12 team members who collectively contributed 24 hours of service.

Public benefits and disclosures

FoodMesh is both a B Corp and a benefit corporation under British Columbia law.

We measure our public benefit through the B Lab Impact Assessment which measures a company’s positive social impact on its stakeholders. We were certified in May 2021, and successfully recertified in May 2024.
