27 May Buy-Low Foods hits milestone of 2 million meals donated!
We’re thrilled to celebrate a major milestone achieved by one of our valued partners: Buy-Low Foods, part of the Pattison Food Group, has officially donated the equivalent of 2 million meals to people in need through their partnership with FoodMesh.
Since we joined forces back in May 2021, Buy-Low Foods has worked alongside FoodMesh to redirect unsold but perfectly good food to more than 300 hunger relief organizations across British Columbia and Alberta. This achievement has made a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and families facing food insecurity.
But the impact doesn’t stop there.
By choosing to recover and redistribute surplus food instead of sending it to landfill, Buy-Low Foods has also made a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability. Their efforts have:
-
Diverted 1,404,378 kilograms of food from going to waste
-
Avoided 3,833,685 kilograms of CO₂e emissions from entering the atmosphere
It’s a powerful reminder of how food recovery not only addresses hunger—it’s also a critical solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting our planet.
This milestone is a testament to what’s possible when businesses take bold action to reduce food waste and give back to their communities. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to everyone at Buy-Low Foods for turning your unsold food into something truly meaningful—for both people and the planet.
