07 May Funding helps people facing food insecurity
People facing food insecurity in BC will benefit from new government funding for community-based programs.
Food Banks BC is receiving $6 million, for use over three years, for the Emergency Food Purchasing program to provide nutritious, culturally appropriate food to people experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.
FoodMesh has been retained to be the implementation partner for the Emergency Food Purchasing Program over the next 3 years.
This program is an extension of the work we’re doing with the Digital Technology Supercluster, and will have three major impacts: to develop a provincial distribution infrastructure that can quickly match and dispatch food to where it’s needed in the event of emergencies, to provide funds for those feeding our food insecure, and to promote BC products and providing cost recovery to those negatively impacted by the pandemic and other emergencies.
